Notes: An established writer and poet Scott-Heron is hailed as an early influencer of Rap and other genres of music from the streets and the people. Along with his collaborator Brian Jackson and The Midnight Band this record got some chart notice and subsequent airplay. Mixing rock and R&B stylings with the poetry and political leanings of previous releases the music was a blend of the serious and the somber and the yearnings of times gone by, but always has an eye on the future. The cover art doesn't try to tone down the politics and puts it's heart right up front. An interesting snapshot in time. |
